Senior Business Affairs Manager, Video Production - Social (Remote)

Job Summary: 

Marcom is Apple’s Global Marketing Communications group. We oversee Apple’s advertising and marketing to ensure the flawless development and execution of world-class communications.

The Senior Business Affairs Video Production (Social) role will partner with producers, Advertising and Global Business Affairs Teams to manage Business Affairs needs for projects within Marcom with an emphasis on social/creator content deliverables. This role requires close cooperation with producers, content managers, legal, brand teams, advertising team, music supervisors, and additional Marcom personnel through development and production of creative and marketing videos. Collaborate with Producers to facilitate aspects of production, legal, copyright/trademark, third party content, rights and all other clearance matters. Understand and provide guidance on advertising law, talent/content creator, production and music matters particularly with regard to social media deliverables. Partner with greater global BA team and outside ad agency to complete localization of third party content, and partner as needed with content production teams for additional translation. This role has a heavy emphasis on content creator social productions with foreign, domestic, non-union and union experience in social media productions required.

Daily Responsibilities: 

  • Oversee all business affairs matters for complex projects from concept to wrap and maintain line of sight into all facets of production including thinking ahead on project/clearance/legal needs and roadblocks, understanding talent/content creator and production processes and regulatory issues.
  • Apply critical thinking throughout production, advising on scripts and storyboards for initial flags and provide creative solves; Working closely with legal to assess and mitigate risk. 
  • Provide full production support including declaring insurance and preparing all necessary paperwork for productions including, casting notices, releases, talent contracts and ensuring all talent payments are made in a timely manner.
  • Prepare talent and residual estimates (union and non-union) along with recommendations around costs and how to maximize budget. Provide estimates, open POs and process invoices; Process accounting accruals and actualizations at quarter end and job close.
  • Conduct copyright and trademark research and initiate trademark searches with legal.
  • Facilitate third party content clearances between Production and BA Asset Managers.
  • Work closely with GEO BA teams for cultural sensitivity concerns and localization of assets.
  • Negotiate complex licenses and clearances for third-party IP with various copyright owners.
  • Manage database systems to track content usage across multiple productions 
  • Successfully build and develop productive relationships with creative and production, bridging the gap between the video production team and the larger Apple BA team. 
  • Work with Producers as well as BA teams to creatively solve, manage, and evolve BA within our production department. 
  • Manage database systems to track content usage across multiple productions and negotiate renewals. 
  • Take on special projects, including complex celebrity campaigns and new product/services where new processes may be required to be implemented. 
  • Mentor and lead junior BA members, especially as department grows.

  • Ability to draw conclusions from working knowledge of issues and risks that impact the areas of talent usage and rights licensing, including copyright and trademark law, union/guild issues, public domain, fair use, defamation, and rights of publicity
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver timely, effective and strategic business affairs advice that is current with the evolving legal and regulatory landscape.
  • You are cool under pressure and have a demonstrated ability to manage urgent deadlines and complex projects while remaining solutions oriented.
  • Must have a high degree of professionalism with a strong focus on accuracy, attention-to-detail, and timeliness is a must.
  • You work independently and act as leader within the team, advising on complex matters and supporting colleagues and junior teammates.

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree
  • 10+ years in agency and/or (in-house) advertiser business affairs experience.
  • 10+ years of experience negotiating talent contracts including over-scale Celebrity/Influencer agreements. 
  • Extensive, up-to-date industry knowledge on talent, regulatory and guild guidelines.
  • Exceptional organizational, prioritization, and time management skills and highly responsive to Producers and other stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal relations and problem-solving skills.
  • Consistently displays a professional and positive service oriented demeanor 
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Expert-level understanding and management of third-party negotiations.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and comfortable navigating rapid change with poise and decorum in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
